Chess Set with Recycled Materials (Ajedrez con materiales reciclados)

 Algunos alumnos/as de 3º ESO han elaborado para el Día del Reciclaje un tablero de ajedrez con todas sus piezas. En la asignatura de Inglés, han redactado cómo lo han elaborado y los materiales que han tenido que utilizar. Al final del texto podéis encontrar el vocabulario relacionado y una actividad de comprensión del mismo. No te lo pierdas porque es bastante original.

"A group of eight mates decided to make a recycled chess set: the chessboard with its chess men. The group of eight was divided into two groups of four. One of them was in charged of the chessboard and the other group, of the chess pieces.

Both groups used six hours in class and another six at home as well.

To start with, we collected some fizzy drinks bottles and cans -of different brand names and sizes depending on the figure to make -, and the cardboard for the chessboard. Then we bought both the painting and the colour cardboards for the squares.

The first group designed the chess pieces, and painted them. We had sixteen bottles and sixteen cans. Half of them were painted in red and the rest in blue.

The bottles were filled in with sawdust to avoid their falling down when playing.

Finally, the bottles were finished for the exposition and their selling.

The second group prepared the chessboard cutting the colour cardboards  into 16 red squares and other 16 blue squares.

We  glued them onto the cardboard and left them dry.

To make this kind of projects is easy if you organize your time.
